The UK team has been around It’s 29 years since Strategic Proposals was founded in the US; 15 years since we started work in the UK. We’ve seen best practice evolve, and we’ve shaped its direction. UK team - Jon Williams

Jon Williams, CPP APMP Fellow

As Managing Director of Strategic Proposals, Jon leads many of our major client assignments. He has completed proposal assignments in over thirty countries worldwide, in sectors such as ICT, financial services, outsourcing and logistics.

He is a Fellow of the Association and a certified Proposal Professional, and has trained nearly 2,000 candidates to pass APMP’s examinations. Jon’s particular interests include:

  • Benchmarking projects – and implementing the resulting recommendations, to drive win rate improvements
  • Delivering award-winning training courses for all those involved in the proposal process: bid/proposal professionals, sales staff, subject matter experts and senior managers
  • Peer review support for live deals, drawing on his background in procurement as well as proposals
  • Occasionally working as an interim Director of Proposal Management, taking a hands-on role for a period of months to sharpen a client’s proposal capabilities.
UK team - Richard Jenkins

Richard Jenkins, CPP APMP Fellow, MCIPS

Richard is a Fellow of the Association of Proposal Management Professionals (APMP), a former CEO of APMP UK and a Director of Strategic Proposals. He has extensive experience of working on both sides of the business winning environment. His first 10 years in corporate life was as a Procurement Manager for British Airways, Orange and France Telecom – writing the Request for Proposals, evaluating the tender responses and the associated sales presentations, and negotiating the subsequent contracts.

For the past 15 years, he has used that wealth of procurement knowledge to good effect, helping sales and bid teams to significantly improve the quality and impact of their sales proposals and presentations. He has worked extensively across a wide range of sectors including IT, Telecoms, Finance, Insurance, Print, Travel, Energy, Health and Supply Chain/Logistics.

His particular interests include:

  • Supporting live tender and pitch opportunities – from facilitating the win strategy to working with the subject matter experts to maximise their evaluation scores in every section of the sales proposal or the overall sales presentation
  • Designing and delivering tailored improvement workshops to empower and energise bid teams to push the quality and impact of their sales proposals and presentations ever higher – and with it their win rates
  • Benchmarking the quality and impact of existing proposal output and capabilities; recommending improvement programmes and leading the delivery of such programmes to help clients win more and win more easily
  • Improving sales proposal management processes to drive both the effectiveness and efficiency of sales, bid and technical teams.

Richard holds the highest level of proposal certification – Professional.

UK team - Graham Ablett

Graham Ablett, CPP APMP

As a Director of the business and with nearly twenty years’ experience in proposals, Graham helps clients to win business in a number of different ways including:

  • Winning specific projects and contracts for clients by providing ‘hands-on’ strategic proposal and presentation support in formal procurement and informal / proactive sales scenarios
  • Delivering interim management and consultancy services to help organisations to improve their win rates whilst increasing the efficiency of their bid and proposal operations
  • Implementing and developing knowledge bases of pre-written proposal content
  • Benchmarking and proposal capability development projects
  • Delivering proposal skills development, coaching and APMP accreditation training – feedback > 90%

Graham has supported clients across a wide range of industries including IT services, professional services, travel, logistics, oil and gas, insurance, roadside services, catering, healthcare, facilities management, real estate, office supplies, telecommunications and defence markets.

Graham holds the highest level of proposal certification – Professional.

UK team - Amanda Nuttall

Amanda Nuttall, CPP APMP

As a Director of Strategic Proposals, Amanda advises and works with sales, marketing and bid teams across a wide range of sectors within the engineering, construction, facilities services and IT sectors, supporting on live deals as well as driving systemic improvements to their proposal processes.

Particular interests include:

  • Support on live proposal and presentation pitches – including value proposition development
  • Reviewing and evaluating proposals through peer review pre submission or benchmarking post submission
  • Establishing a defined bid infrastructure – with a clear proposal process, designed templates and tailored pre-written content.

Amanda holds the highest level of proposal certification – Professional.

UK team - Lorraine Baird

Lorraine Baird, CPP APMP

Highly regarded bid and proposal specialist, with additional skills in training, recruitment, coaching and management. Deep knowledge of financial services and utilities sectors and the ability to apply these elsewhere.

Lorraine specialises in helping organisations to win the right business, cost-effectively. Thrives on leading teams at all levels, in any organisation, and developing strategies (even with the scantest of details and the tightest of timelines), to achieve a successful outcome.

Lorraine’s skillset includes:

  • Pre-proposal planning – enabling organisations to produce a highly evaluated responses by developing and implementing robust contact/win strategies and building compelling value propositions
  • Set-up or enhancement of proposal capability – equipping bid teams with the right skills and tools to drive the organisation forward in producing winning proposals and presentations
  • Delivering training and coaching programmes to provide bid teams with new skills and ideas to improve the quality of their proposals and presentation – increasing win rates as a result.

Susan Hanning, CPP APMP

As Head of Proposals, Scotland, Susan works with clients in all sectors – in Scotland, the UK and internationally.

Her particular interests include:

  • Proposal writing and editing – powerful, engaging content in line with best practice
  • Proposal presentations – conceptualising the story and the visuals and coaching the team through the end-to-end process
  • Training and coaching – particularly in the areas of proposal writing and presentations
  • Benchmarking – with clear recommendations on what actions to take to maximise your win rate.

Susan holds the highest level of proposal certification – Professional.

UK team - Nigel Hudson

Nigel Hudson, CPP APMP

As Senior Professional Development Consultant, Nigel has responsibility for our award-winning portfolio of learning & development solutions. He works with the Strategic Proposals team to design and deliver our training courses having trained over 4,000 people worldwide before joining SP.

Nigel also works on live deals, utilising his 17 years’ experience in bid and proposal management. He’s worked extensively in telecommunications and professional services, and has submitted bids to multinational clients in most industries.

His areas of interest are:

  • Creating positive behavioural change through training, coaching and mentoring
  • Increasing win rates and reducing deal closure time by building the confidence and capability of everyone involved in bidding
  • Defining training needs analyses based upon benchmarked competencies, behaviours and output
  • Leading and guiding pursuit teams during must-win opportunities and negotiations
  • Driving a better understanding of the buying centre and competitive landscape to establish and articulate more compelling value propositions

UK team - Laurence Morton

Laurence Morton, CP APMP

As a Consultant, Laurence works closely with bid teams to help and improve the quality of our client’s responses ensuring each is best positioned to be the winning submission through maximising their scoring potential in the evaluation process.

Laurence can lead the proposal effort throughout the entire bid process or trouble-shoot and resolve specific challenges. He has particular expertise in passenger and freight transport / logistics but has also worked on both private and public sector proposals in the automotive, defence, financial, IT software and hardware, energy, telecoms and support services markets.

Laurence holds Practitioner certification.

UK team - Anna Geddes

Anna Geddes CP APMP

Anna is a highly skilled bid and proposal specialist with over 15 years’ experience. She is passionate about helping clients win more or retain key renewals in the best way possible. She has the ability to cut through complexity to achieve results in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Alongside this, she brings strong leadership, appropriate commercial challenge and bags of enthusiasm.

Her key skills include:

  • Hands-on proposal and pitch management – from initial pre-proposal planning, win strategy development, proposal management to winning the deal.
  • Presentation support – ensuring the messages are clear and appropriate.
  • Training and coaching bid teams to improve their capabilities and win rates.
  • Benchmarking and evaluating existing capabilities, then making recommendations for improvement.
  • Delivering proposal and pitch improvement programmes.
  • Interim team management and development.

Anna holds Practitioner certification.

UK team - Krista Takkala

Krista Takkala, CF APMP

As a Consultant, Krista brings five years’ experience of developing winning proposals across a number of sectors including transport, property, energy, infrastructure for both public and private sector clients.

Prior to joining Strategic Proposals, Krista worked within Aurecon’s (a global multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy) business development team to deliver the organisation’s major and strategic proposals across Australia, New Zealand and Asia.

An advanced user of the Microsoft Office Suite, Krista is experienced in building template suites, and delivering the associated training, to meet and exceed customer’s expectations.

Krista is APMP accredited at Foundation level and is currently completing her Practitioner certification.

UK team - Kim Panesar

Kim Panesar, CF APMP

Working for some of the top print and design firms has enabled Kim to inject effective and impactful graphics into proposals. His beliefs are in strong communication in the form of dynamic aesthetics.

He has delivered design projects for many of our clients including Microsoft, National Express and Hitachi. Working from client briefs he has created effective infographics by translating complex information into manageable charts, maps, diagrams, data visualisation and technical information.

He is also a professional photographer creating bespoke images for a wide variety of client projects.

UK team - Andrew Walker

Andrew Walker, CF APMP

Andy is a senior professional design and document manager with highly rated expertise and experience in sales proposals, presentations and multi-media production.

He is an innovative, visual thinker with advanced knowledge of the relevant software applications and the ability to work highly collaboratively with others.

He specialises in managing the end to end production & design of proposals and presentations helping to maximise the impact of the first and lasting impression of every output.

Prior to joining Strategic Proposals he specialised in the creative design and document management of sales proposals and presentations for Aviva.

UK team - Rachel Fisher

Rachel Fisher

Rachel brings over 15 years of design experience to Strategic Proposals’ clients. She has a wealth of experience of delivering end to end design and production of projects within finance, retail, manufacturing sectors.

A passion for visual communication enables Rachel to produce a wide range of graphics for sales proposals, pitch presentations and marketing brochures – with a focus to engage and excite the audience.

Rachel has a passion for art, design and typography and was recently awarded membership of the International Society of Typographical designers.
